In CNC machine tools, commonly used tool materials include high speed steel, hard alloy, ceramic and super hard tools these several categories.
1. High speed steel is a kind of high alloy tool steel, which is synthesized by adding more metal elements such as tungsten, molybdenum, chromium and vanadium into the steel. It has the characteristics of high hardness, strong heat resistance, hardness is two to three times of the general carbide, can withstand the high temperature of 650 degrees Celsius without affecting the cutting. Often used in non - ferrous metal, structural steel, cast iron and other materials processing.
2. Hard alloy is a kind of powder metallurgy products, it is made of high hardness, refractory metal carbide and metal binder sintering under high temperature conditions. Its working temperature can reach 1000 degrees Celsius high temperature, although the strength and toughness is lower than high-speed steel, but the service life is the latter several times, even dozens of times. It is often used to process many kinds of materials such as hardened steel.
3.The tool made of ceramic materials in addition to high hardness, wear resistance and good high temperature mechanical properties, the biggest advantage is stable chemical properties, and metal affinity is small, not easy to be processed with metal bonding, can be used for high speed, ultra-high speed cutting and hard material cutting. Steel, cast iron, alloys and difficult materials are often cut with ceramic tools.
4. Super hard materials refer to synthetic diamond, cubic boron nitride, and polycrystalline diamond and polycrystalline cubic nitride shed sintered by powder and binder of these materials. As we all know, diamond is the hardest material in nature. Therefore, superhard materials have excellent wear resistance and are often used in high-speed cutting and difficult cutting materials.
