Is a 3 or 4 Jaw Chuck Better?

3 jaw chuck

The bevel gear is rotated with a voltron wrench, and the bevel gear drives the plane rectangular thread, and then drives the three claws to move centripetal. Because the pitch of the plane rectangular thread is equal, the three claws have the same movement distance, and the function of automatic centering.

Three jaw chuck is composed of a large bevel gear, three small bevel gear, three jaw. The three small bevel gears engage with the large bevel gears. The back of the large bevel gears has a planar thread structure, and the three jaws are mounted on the planar threads in equal parts. When the small bevel gear is turned with a wrench, the large bevel gear rotates, and the flat thread on its back causes the three jaws to move towards and out of the center at the same time.

4 jaw chuck

It uses four lead screws to drive the four claws respectively, so the common four jaw chuck has no automatic centering effect. But you can adjust the position of the four claws, clamping a variety of rectangular, irregular workpiece.

Is a 3 or 4 jaw chuck better?

The difference between 3-jaw chucks and 4-jaw chucks lies in the number of jaws, the shapes of workpieces they can hold, and their accuracy. While 4-jaw chucks provide higher accuracy with greater flexibility to hold different shapes like cylinders and octagons, 3-jaw chucks are self-centering and easier to set up.
